Sailplane Air Operations rules

As previously advised, from 9th July 2019 EASA sailplanes including powered sailplanes including TMGs are subject to EASA’s Part-SAO (Sailplane Air Operations) rules.

EASA aeroplanes have for some time been subject to EASA’s Part-NCO (Non-Complex Operations) rules.

All pilots of EASA aircraft are encouraged to make themselves familiar with the relevant legal requirements, ie Part-SAO for EASA sailplanes including powered sailplanes including TMGs, and Part-NCO for EASA aeroplanes.

Whilst Part-SAO does not differ significantly from existing requirements/good practice across Europe, it is important that pilots understand the rules. The detail is signposted on the BGA members website ‘Operations’ page at https://members.gliding.co.uk/operations/. FAQs are included.
