The DfT is responsible for the oversight of aviation in the UK including general aviation, which includes gliding. On the 21st December, the DfT updated its guidance for GA during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The update follows the implementation of the level 4 tier in England. In it’s guidance, the DfT notes that in tier 4 areas ‘flight training for private pilots (i.e. training for leisure purposes) is not permitted as this is not considered a reasonable excuse for leaving home’.
Please note that there is different public health guidance in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
