Post-Brexit non-UK maintenance approvals

The post-Brexit Trade and Commerce agreement does not include an aviation maintenance annex. As a result, as previously reported, maintenance certified under EASA approvals is not acceptable under UK Part M and UK Part ML. So EASA Form 1’s associated with maintained/refurbished parts cannot be accepted in the UK from 31st March 2022, ie the date on which a UK CAA exemption ends. From that date, EASA approved companies need to be approved by the UK CAA and issue UK approved Form 1’s for maintained/refurbished parts.

Unfortunately, most EASA approved companies that supply sailplane owners seem unwilling to obtain UK CAA approval. The BGA has discussed the topic with suppliers and has met with the CAA to consider the options in detail and more information will be supplied as soon as it is available.
