Engine thefts

Over recent years there have been several thefts of Rotax engines from airfields also resulting in damaged aircraft. West Mercia Police’s ‘Operation Opal’ works on a national and international level to collate information helpful to various investigations. Opal does not investigate the crimes locally; this remains the responsibility of the local police service. So victims of a Rotax engine theft do need to contact their local police.

As many microlight aircraft are equipped with Rotax engines, the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) are collating information about all aircraft engine thefts or suspicious activity that may be useful to Opal. Information can be submitted via this form.
