Call to action – Pilot Medical Declaration consultation
The CAA has published a consultation on proposed changes to the Pilot Medical Declaration (PMD) which closes on 9th March.
The consultation proposals helpfully reinforce ongoing use of the PMD within gliding. This is a VERY important topic and the BGA strongly encourages all glider pilots to respond to the consultation.
After reading the consultation document and clicking on ‘Share your views’, you will be asked for details about you, followed by two questions. The first question asks for comments about the proposed changes to the ANO. The second question asks for comments about the Aircrew Regulation. We offer the following guidance:
ANO response: The BGA encourages responses that strongly support the continued use of the PMD by student pilots, licence holders, instructors and examiners for NPPL and associated class ratings.
The BGA has also highlighted concern about proposed wording in Article 163 that introduces uncertainty, i.e. ‘or subject to such other medical criteria as the CAA may specify’.
Aircrew Regulation response: The BGA encourages responses that strongly support the continued use of the PMD by student pilots, licence holders, instructors and examiners under Part-SFCL including establishing that within Part-MED.
