Rolling recency

The winter weather has resulted in more pilots than usual at this time of year being short of recent flying experience.

The SPL and associated instructor certificates are lifetime qualifications that are valid subject to rolling recency requirements. Please refer to SFCL for full details, including how to re-establish rolling recency where required.

SFCL includes a 90-day recency requirement for carrying passengers in a sailplane, powered sailplane or TMG. The requirement exists to reduce risk to another person where flying with a pilot who has minimal recent experience. BGA guidance is that the lowest risk and most straightforward way of achieving the 90-day recency requirement for carrying a passenger is by flying solo.

As ever, clubs may of course have their own additional currency requirements.
