FCL PPL-only instructor medical requirement consultation

The CAA has reported that they are planning changes to the regulations that currently allow flight instruction on SEP/TMG aircraft (Part 21 and non-Part 21) by instructors who have made a Pilot Medical Declaration (PMD) instead of holding a Class 2 Medical Certificate. The CAA has reviewed the policy and concluded that it should not remain in place to protect the standard of the Part-FCL PPL and ensure students have the opportunity to choose training with medically certified instructors. A formal rulemaking process, including industry consultation, will begin in the coming months. The CAA notes that no changes are planned for microlight, balloon, or sailplane instructors using a PMD.
