FI(S) Advanced Aerobatics

Experience shows that an FI(S) will need some training prior to demonstrating their ability to instruct advanced aerobatics.

Helpful SFCL reference

SFCL.315 (a) (5)

The student instructor

The student instructor must hold an SPL with Advanced Aerobatic privileges and an FI(S) certificate.

The instructor

The FI(S) carrying out the training must hold SFCL.315 (a)(5) advanced aerobatics and (7) privileges.

The aircraft

The aircraft used must hold either a valid ARC or NARC and be assessed as suitable for aerobatic training. Clubs can contact the BGA re suitability.

 The course training programme

The BGA has developed an SFCL compliant course programme for use by BGA clubs only. These course programmes may only be used or reproduced or copied with the written permission of the BGA Ltd.  If any issues or errors are discovered when using the course programmes, please do highlight via the BGA office.

The FI(S) Aerobatic course programme is available here.

The demonstration of ability

The DofA must be completed and recorded by an FI(S) with (a)(7) and (a) (5) advanced aerobatics privileges who is nominated by the BGA Head of training; this may be the same person who conducts the training. See ‘Instructors and instructor training’ for the currently nominated individuals.

Completion

Where the student instructor already holds 315 (a)(5) aerobatics instructor privileges on their SPL, there is no requirement to submit an application to the BGA as no subsequent CAA licensing action is required.

Where 315 (a) (5) aerobatic instructor privileges are not already on the student instructor’s SPL, an FI(S) additional privilege application form must be submitted to the BGA for subsequent licensing action by the CAA (SFCL.015 refers).
