Portsmouth Naval (Middle Wallop)
Portsmouth Naval Gliding Centre operates from Middle Wallop airfield in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Our flights enjoy views across the beautiful River Test valley and villages, and southwards towards the Solent and the Isle of Wight. This open landscape is known for its excellent soaring conditions.
The club maintains longstanding links with the Royal Navy as well as the adjacent Army Air Corps while welcoming a wider community of enthusiasts who share an interest in learning to fly and contributing to a friendly volunteer-run club.
Training is provided by experienced instructors using one of the most capable and modern club fleets in the country. This includes three ASK-21 two-seat training gliders, a high-performance Duo Discus for advanced training and cross-country flying, and a varied single-seat fleet including two Astirs, a Discus and a Ka-8, together with a Grob 109b motor glider. This range of aircraft allows members to progress from their first flight through to confident solo and advanced soaring.
Flying takes place at weekends, and the club’s volunteer culture creates a welcoming environment in which both newcomers and experienced pilots can develop their skills and enjoy the fun and accomplishments of gliding.
