Doncaster airport ACP – important
As previously reported, some years ago Doncaster Sheffield Airport failed as a business, the airport closed, and the surrounding controlled airspace was formally dis-established.
Local Government intends to reopen the airfield. Presumably to encourage airlines to use the airfield, the airfield owner is sponsoring an airspace change proposal (ACP) to reinstate the previous large volumes of class D, etc, controlled airspace. It is unusual for an airfield to seek controlled airspace without any evidenced safety need. It is the BGA’s view that based on current and a realistic forecast of activity, the airfield could operate with an ATZ.
The BGA has liaised with local clubs in responding to the consultation.
The CAA views the number of responses to a consultation as an indication of the level interest. Pilots are encouraged to respond with their own thoughts.
