Sailplane Pilot Licence Conversion
As previously reported, from 30th September 2025 it will be mandatory to hold a Part SFCL Sailplane Pilot Licence to fly a Part 21 sailplane (other than as a student pilot).
The process of converting BGA qualifications to an SPL is well-proven and straightforward. Due to the expected volume of applications in 2025, the processing times for these applications both at BGA and CAA is bound to extend. The BGA strongly recommends that glider pilots do not unnecessarily delay their SPL conversion applications. This autumn and winter is probably the ideal time to complete your application and submit it to the BGA.
