Aeroplane pilot licence changes from 1st October 2025
The CAA aeroplane licensing simplification project has resulted in changes that will come into force from 1st October 2025.
Several changes have recently been briefed by the CAA that may be of interest to current and future tug pilots and include:
The sailplane towing rating will be removed from UK FCL and reverts to towing training under BGA guidance (this follows removal of the towing rating from UK SFCL on 15 Sep)
The LAPL(A) SEP will merge with NPPL SSEA to become NPPL SEP.
Revalidation by experience will be aligned for aeroplane licences for SEP, TMG and microlight (not an overnight change – expect a 12-month window to adopt the changes)
Three-axis microlight may be used for for SEP refresher training (where the pilot and FI have microlight differences training)
Look out for CAA published official news on these and other aeroplane licence changes.
