Certifying maintenance

Aircraft owners are reminded that pilot-owner maintenance rules provide an opportunity for capable pilot-owners to carry out specified maintenance and certify that maintenance with their signature and their pilot licence number. Pilot-owner maintenance guidance is available here.

People who are interested in learning more about aircraft maintenance and potentially becoming qualified to certify a wider range of maintenance and/or repair, are encouraged to become BGA inspectors.  Under UK regulation, a BGA inspector who certifies a Part21 aircraft (most gliders are Part 21 aircraft) needs to hold a Part66L licence. Qualifying for a Part66L licence involves developing knowledge (which is tested by online exams) and developing practical experience (which is assessed by other BGA inspectors). BGA inspector and Part66L guidance is available here.
