Data Protection
This webpage is aimed at club officials who are responsible for data protection. Of course there has always been a requirement to protect personal data. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is expected to come into force on 25th May 2018, includes some significant new requirements.
A useful introduction for anyone who is worried about how their club will cope with what can appear to be a complicated new regulation is this BBC interview with the deputy head of the Information Commission Office.
Guidance
The BGA has developed the following guidance for clubs:
GDPR initial briefing and action list Phase I
GDPR initial briefing and action list Phase II
GDPR initial briefing and action list Phase III
These signpost clubs to relevant GDPR & data protection resources provided by the Information Commissioner Office (ICO) and the Sport & Recreation Alliance.
The BGA Development Officer who authored this guidance can be contacted via the BGA office.
