Launchpoint charity seeks new trustees

The Launchpoint charitable trust is seeking new trustees to join the existing team.

Launchpoint aims to provide opportunities to experience gliding and to enable pilots at all stages in gliding to expand their horizons in the sport. This includes support for pilot development to solo and beyond, for example improving cross-country skills, mountain flying and aerobatics.

We provide bursaries and sponsorship awards, via “Caroline” and “Ted Lys” awards. These have proved highly valuable to individual pilots and gliding clubs, with many positive comments received. Here are a couple of examples:

“As a result of receiving the Caroline Award, Joshua is now a solo glider pilot. I just wanted to share his success with you and to say how immensely grateful we all are that he received this help from you.”

“Good news! I completed both my standard and sports aerobatics badge last week at Denbigh. Genuinely thank you so much for helping me do this. …! I learnt so much in those three days and couldn’t have done it without the Ted Lys award so thank you so so much for the opportunity”

We would welcome new trustees, from any part of the gliding community with any of a variety of skills. We are particularly keen to recruit individuals who have interest in fundraising, internet & social media, or awards administration.

This volunteer role involves collaborating with other trustees as well as undertaking activities independently on behalf of the Trustee Board. Trustee meetings usually take place via Zoom.

If you would like to know more about this valuable and fulfilling activity, please contact our Chair of Trustees, George Metcalfe, at Launchpoint.chair@gmail.com
