Back to RAF Shawbury Gliding Club

Easter 2015 Expedition to Talgarth

Our week long Easter 2015 Expedition to Talgarth which was a great success due in no small part to the hospitality of our hosts the Black Mountains Gliding Club. We took three Wrekin Club and one private glider, and ten club members were able to fly on six of the seven days completing 27 flights and 29 hours. Most the week was characterised by light winds from the South so the ridges were not really working. The last day was different with a strong wind from the West and strong thermals. This allowed us to use the ridges and thermals with trips out to Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons. Two flights from the last day have been claimed on the national ladder but pale against the several 500km+ flights also done on that day!
