Back to RAF Shawbury Gliding Club

Resumption of flying

After a long absence it was great to be out on the airfield again at Cosford. Preparations prior to the day had been intense and included the submission of a comprehensive Covid 19 risk mitigation plan, inspections of all vehicles, winch, winch cables and launch assemblies. Aircraft were given a thorough inspection.

Our primary aim on these flying days is to achieve and maintain recency and currency for our members, in particular the instructors, in order that we can re-engage with our RAF Cosford students once the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted and two seat flying recommences.

It was a most interesting return to flying conducted in a very structured way to ensure that everyone was prepared for that first winch launch. No one found flying with a face covering and gloves an impediment and wiping down the cockpit after crew changeover quickly become routine.
